Restaurants stay open, seats available throughout the theater (both movies, and theatrical productions).Īlas, each year summer comes to an end, and Bloomington gladly welcomes back its returning students. For these few months, we enjoy all the benefits of a mid-larger city, without the population to match it. When the students have returned home for the summer, it leaves us the entire campus open, uncrowded.

While it is great here all year long, I think my favorite time in Bloomington is summer.

In the spring, campus is beautiful with blossoming trees, the lake is easily accessible and a relaxing location for sunbathing, fishing, boating, or swimming. In the winter we have ice skating, decent hills for sledding, and good sales in the mall and local stores. In the fall, there are always cookouts, tailgates, and festivals. It is thrilling to see up close the enthusiastic, interactive, devoted fans of IU athletics. Athletics at IU are entertaining, affordable, and traditional. I have had the opportunity to attend Big Ten sporting events like basketball, volleyball, football, and more. There are many cultural opportunities, religious establishments, restaurants, and local shops. There are excellent schools, both private and public. When it came time to apply for college, I was sure I wanted to leave Bloomington, even though Indiana University was quite literally in my own back yard. My parents, and each of their parents also grew up in Bloomington, and the surrounding area. I have lived in Bloomington since I was two years old.
